What a great day I had on Wednesday. One of my top three choices would have won all nine races had I not made a publishing error in Race 6. Even so, I had the early P4, the P5, some big P3’s and plenty of nice win mutuels. Let’s look for the same success today.

Belmont September 25

Race 1.  Not much of a race here. Starr Bear will go favorite in this race off the strength of her turf start at SAR. That gave her a figure well above any of the other horses that have started and that may be enough to propel her to victory. Sunday Gravy makes her fourth lifetime start and she improved in her last run. She adds blinkers today. Honor Way goes for Pletcher and Castellano. She ran well in her last, a maiden claimer, and steps up to MSW today. Primary 2-1A-4

Race 2.  This race looks wide open to me. Inventor’s Gate is listed at 12-1 on the ML but he’s been racing against better quality horses and producing good figures. Should be running at the front and has the ability to be strong in the stretch. Son of Oahu took a while to break his maiden but jumped up in price and ran well. I like the improvement and he appears to be in top shape. Steamboat Bill had a bit of a tough time getting out of the gate last out and actually had the lead in the stretch before getting run down. Certainly fits with this group. Primary 2-6-3  Secondary (1, 4, 7)

Race 3.  I’m Amazing has had two tough loses in a row, took a little over two months off, and comes back off a nice series of works. Winning Road makes his 2016 debut today. His figure from last year comes close to topping the field, and with a year of growth he could come back even better. May be the value. Tale of Mist has the best figures in the field, but is making his tenth start looking to break his maiden. Not an impossible task but at the odds not that exciting. Primary 2-6-1  Secondary (4)

Race 4.  Three Perfections was outfinished last race but that was only his second start. Should be able to better dictate his pace in this race and at 10-1 he’s as good as anything in the race.  Ballagh Rocks has been close in his last three and today could be the breakthrough day. T R Crew has been in the money in each of his last four and should appreciate the slight cutback in distance.  Primary 8-9-4  Secondary 2, 6)

Race 5.  Marble Falls should be the one to catch here. He makes a pretty good drop in price and the last time he was this low and this distance he was a winner. Good ML odds. You Know I Know won easily at this level and distance at SAR, came back at a slightly higher price and put in a good performance, and drops back in price today. Figures say he is a major contender. Attractive Ride has been knocking around at the level for a while. Veteran campaigner knows how to win and is worth a look as a price possibility.  Primary 10-7-1  Secondary (4, 5, 11)

Race 6.  Orecchiette had some issues at the start but nearly broke his maiden at first asking. Should have no issue with the added half furlong. Bellavais adds Lasix today after nearly winning his debut race. Fly Swift makes his third start for Clement and is a major contender with a clean trip. Primary 2-10-3  Secondary (5, 7, 8, 12)

Race 7.  This is a very difficult race and there are a lot of horses that you can make a case for. I’m going to start with Securitiz. He’s coming off a nice second place finish at this level. Last time he was at this distance he was a winner. Slim Shadey was claimed two back by Mitchell Friedman and finished second at this level for him. Irad Ortiz helps the cause. English Minister has trouble getting to the winner’s circle but always seems to be close at the finish. Good prospect in the verticals. Primary 10-9-6  Secondary (1, 2, 5, 7, 11)

Race 8.  This edition of the John Hertinger is very competitive. Fourstar Crook has a five race winning streak and that makes her tough to pick against. This may be her toughest test yet so I’ll make her a tepid favorite. Flipcup was entered yesterday but passed in favor of this spot. She was second to the top choice last out and could reverse the tables today, Old Harbor easily won a stakes at DEL last out. Could have done better in the Yaddo but the track was yielding that day. Has outs at good odds. Primary 2-3-5  Secondary (6, 7)

Race 9.  Kitty Madness gets a positive jockey switch to Irad and at the odds looks like the potential value.  Tiz Twice should be the speed in the field and has shown finish at the distance. Tepid choice for me. Belle Postiere ran well in her first in NA but didn’t show well in her second because of a troubled start. If she runs to her top figure she will be tough to keep out.  Primary 4-7-8  Secondary (6, 10)

Belmont September 24

Race 1. Wide open two year old maiden race. Win with Pride was a $450K purchase and has the top connections of Pletcher/Velasquez. Big Handsome has a series of bullet works and may be the speed here. Tale of Silence has one start where he showed good speed after getting bumped at the break. Could be a threat with a clean trip.  Primary 5-1-4

Race 2.  Lots of changes for That Makes Sense since his last at SAR He’s been gelded, switched trainers to Carlos Martin and adds blinkers today. Cuts back in distance and has a speedy 4F workout in prep for this. Howie’s Tiz has two seconds in five starts at BEL and has been knocking around at the NW2L level for a while. Tepid second choice. Glennevan goes first time with winners off a sharp maiden win. DJ seems to have turned him around. Primary 8-7-5  Secondary (4, 9)

Race 3.  Another open affair. Speith closed very well after steadying at the start. McLaughlin is strong with second start maidens. Mo Town has a strong second and a series of nice workouts . Was well backed as a favorite first time out and has the top last race figure. Your Secret’s Safe finished behind the second choice last out but Chad Brown is a stout 26% with second time maidens.  Primary 5-4-6  Secondary (2, 3)

Race 4. This race looks like the West Point all over again, except at another sixteenth of a mile. King Kreesa and Kharafa have both successfully negotiated the distance and they finished within a nose of each other last time. Offering Plan and Tapitation were within half a length of the top two last out, but neither shows a success at the distance. However, they both like the BEL turf.  Hard to settle on any other horse.  Primary 3-4-5-6

Race 5.  I think you could make a case for any horse in this race. Hammers Vision raced well in the Better Talk Now in his latest and was within a length in the G3 Pennine Ridge. Figures look strong and Johnny V stays for the ride. Cadeyrn finally broke through at the NW1X level and steps up to the NW2X level. I like how he’s run with the change to Saez. Story to Tell has been in the money in five of his last six races and Irad Ortiz gets back in the saddle.  Primary 3-6-5  Secondary (1, 2, 4)

Race 6. Euros to Dollars ran two good races at SAR on the turf and looks to transfer that form to BEL. Looks like the one to catch. Mambo at the Gym adds blinkers today after being claimed last out by Mike Maker. Seems to have trouble cracking the winners circle but lately has been consistent in the money. Altar Boy looks better suited to the 7F distance of today’s race after running evenly in the middle of the pack last out. Last win was at this distance on this track.  Primary 1-3-9  Secondary (7, 8)

Race 7. Zennor is 2 of 2 in the money at BEL and gets a much better post position today. Only his third start of 2016  and should be looked to steal the race up front. Tizzarunner has been racing with much better lately and should be one of the ones coming in the stretch. Sadler’s Joy just broke his maiden at a long distance and is beautifully bred for these long affairs. May need to be a little closer if he expects to use his late speed effectively.  Primary 1-5-9  Secondary (2, 4, 7, 10)

Race 8.  The edition of the Nobel Damsel brings together a fair field of fillies and mares. Mrs McDougal has been running a steady diet of Graded races including decent runs in the Diana and the Just A Game. Should find this group more to her liking. Stormy Victoria has been running well in lesser stakes since coming to North America. Big figure in her last and if she duplicates it she’ll be the danger. Bureau de Change has been knocking with Graded types all year with only modest success but catches a fair group today. At 10-1 ML she is worth a look.  Primary 5-7-2  Secondary (6, 8)

Race 9.  Wireless Future was running in graded races earlier this year and has been claimed out of him last two when dropped to $40K. has shown decent speed in routes and cuts back to 6F today. Lots of positives including a drop in price and a switch to Lezcano. Speeding Comet is another making a substantial drop in price. He’s 7 of 8 in the money at BEL and should be in a nice pressing spot. Rapscallion is another that likes the BEL turf. Last time he was at this level he was a winner.  Primary 8-5-1  Secondary (7, 9)

Race 10.  This race is wide open as far as I am concerned. Palladian Bridge is making her third lifetime start. She dropped to this level lat out and ran an improved race. Takes the blinkers off today. Sea Pebble has eight starts and four place finishes. Looks to be solid in the verticals. Flying K C just missed when dropped to the sprint distance last time. She’s another that has a lot of in the money finishes but won’t seem to win. Perhaps her last showed an interest in winning.  Primary 2-6-11  Secondary (7)
